Health Update

September 2023
If you follow me on Instagram (@TimberLynnPrice) you'll already know that I've been dealing with some health issues for the past few years including extreme fatigue, constant brain-fog, trouble remembering things, and just generally feeling unwell. This is why I am no longer doing in-home organizing full time… I want to be the best possible version of myself before I start the business back up again. You guys deserve that, and so do I! Organizing has always brought me so much joy and energy, but over the past year or so, I have started to become very physically fatigued and mentally exhausted by the never ending games of Tetris, hauling product and donations, and running a business.

A couple months ago, I started seeing a Functional Medicine Doctor and am finally getting some answers as to why I feel the way I do. It turns out that due to poor genetics (thanks mom and dad lol) my body is not able to undergo the methylation process properly. What does that mean? Great question! I didn't know until about two months ago... so if you're confused, we're on the same page lol!

The methylation process influences a lot of other critical biological processes such as  the production of energy, DNA maintenance, our immune systems, and our natural detoxification processes. Apparently my genes for methylation are so bad that my body is only able to produce 30% of the energy it's supposed to (which explains the 10 hours of sleep minimum that you have all heard me joke about needing each night for years now, and the fact that I become physically exhausted after accomplishing a few simple tasks per day… and here I was thinking I was just being dramatic) as well as creating a few other issues that I don't know enough about quite yet to explain. On top of that, because of my weakened immune system and the inability for my body to detox properly, I have tons and tons of toxins being stored in my body. Mycotoxins (mold and fungus), environmental toxins, heavy metals, you name it… my doctor told me I have the most toxins in any patient she's seen in her entire career… yikes... she told me that if we don't take care of this soon, I'm at a high risk of accelerated aging (a fancy way to say “you could die young”) and at a high risk of developing cancer. She said there is no reason to believe we need to worry about either of those things quite yet, so I am very happy about that and trying to stay positive... but I'd be lying if I said I wan't super freaked out and that multiple tears had been shed since hearing this.

The good news? Well, now we know… so with a few lifestyle changes, following a strict diet, detox protocol (which I am still waiting on), and supplements to make up for what my body lacks, I should be able to rid my body of the toxins, heal the damage that has been done over the past few years, and help support my body's methylation for the years to come. Sounds easy, right? Well, I'm not sure... hopefully it is... I don't know what it all entails just yet, and it's hard to say how long this will take.

To my understanding, it is a slow, delicate process that could take anywhere from a few months to a few years to complete. I'll have more updates for you as soon as I can!

A lot of people have been asking me how this happened, and the truth is, I have no idea! It's likely a combination of many different things, paired with the fact that my body is not able to undergo its normal detoxification processes properly. Living between a refinery and train tracks for nearly 10 years is my guess for the main cause of all of this, but there are also toxins all around us that we are coming into contact with on a daily basis, no matter how hard we try to stay away from them. There are heavy metals, microplastics, chemicals, and medications in our drinking water… there are traces of mold in coffee, flour, rice, oats and other dried goods… there are toxins from pesticides being sprayed on our veggies that we then consume, or that get mixed into the water supply when it rains… there are microplastics in the food we eat from the production process, it being packaged, and from using plastic cutting boards… chemical off gassing from home goods like mattresses, couches, and wood stains that we breathe in… the list goes on and on... and on. I personally think that everyone is negatively affected by these things in some way, however, most bodies are able to filter out toxins better than mine apparently is.

If you are still reading this, I just want to say THANK YOU! I will be sure to keep you all updated on how my healing process goes, and I will definitely be sharing all of the non-toxic and healthier alternatives to everyday items I discover along my journey.
